At a Mayne Rouss Fire Company meeting the Cumberland Valley Volunteer Firemens Association invited members to join the Harrisburg convention October 3 to 5. The group approved uniforms, awarded a 100 red woolen shirt contract to S. H. Hable, and announced special railroad rates for firemen taking the trip.

Funeral services for Mrs. William R. Smith were held Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at her home 409 Fairmont Avenue. Rev. O Edward Janney of Baltimore officiated. Friends from Roanoke Baltimore Atlantic City Union Bridge and Washington attended. A choir sang hymns selected by Mrs. Smith and a poem was read at the grave. Pallbearers included Howell Bond Joseph Jolliffe W McC Bond Allen Bond McSherry Lupton Thomas S Hancher and W S White.
A Harrisburg telegram states there will be no reel races at the upcoming firemen convention in Harrisburg Pa. The inquiry from Fred W Forney to Jack Mannings of Camp Curtin Fire Company confirmed no reel racing appears on the official program.

Marie Roberts, the assault victim, was sent to her York home on Saturday afternoon. The city is believed to cover her expenses since she lacks funds. Her mother lives in York and Mrs. Roberts had been jailed as a witness after the earlier arrests and sentences handed down by police court.
Mr. Robert L. Gray Jr of London visits his parents Capt and Mrs Robert L Gray Sr in this city. He was formerly in the diplomatic service in Europe and now works with firms holding special concessions there. He travels widely in Switzerland and Germany and spends part of each year in London.
Jackson California September 18 officials announce a new passage between the Argonaut and Kennedy mines. Forty seven men had been trapped for over three weeks and air is said to be passing between the two workings. The connecting tunnel enlargement allows rescue crews entry.
In Mount Vernon Illinois peach growers say this season yielded solid profits. One grower shipped 71 carloads from a 100 acre tract with peaches averaging 396 bushels per car and selling for 2 to 2.25 dollars per bushel.
Mrs Pierce Orme, principal of the School of Natural Education in Washington DC, visited Handley School on Friday afternoon. She expressed great interest and was impressed with the kindergarten and first three grades curriculum and equipment.
The will of Mary R. Smith, widow of William R. Smith, was admitted to probate in the Corporation Court. It is among the longest ever probated here, with at least twenty codicils adding or revoking bequests. A $1,000 bequest funds a room at Winchester Memorial Hospital named for the couple.

Miss Julia Roe, a popular member of the John Handley faculty for four years, left this morning for Williamsburg Virginia to enroll as a graduate student in the education department at the College of William and Mary. Her friends extend best wishes for her success in the new field.
AP reports violent clashes in Dublin with several shootings. The Irish Independent offices guarded by State troops were attacked. Republican forces invaded Oriel House, home to the criminal investigation department, and a detective was killed. In Belfast fatalities since July 1 total 436, with 189 Protestants and 247 Catholics killed.

In Baltimore on September 18 the murder trial of nine men tied to the daytime robbery killing of William B Norris on August 18 at Parkentine and Madison streets was postponed to September 26. Pleas were entered by Smith Carey Blas enay Lewis Heard Novak and Hart with changes of venue granted for Carey and severance denied for most.
