U N forces push from Inchon toward Seoul as Marines seize Yongdunpo suburb and cross the Han River. The Second Division advances four and a half miles along the Naktong and rebels retreat in a broader, rain swept Korean campaign.
Secretary Acheson presented a proposal to the North Atlantic Council to form a unified Western European defense force with American and German contingents under Allied command. The plan includes arming German units while keeping them under Allied control and expanding arms production, with a supreme commander and shared funding.
The French naval frigate La Place was sunk by a floating magnetic mine while anchored off St Malo Brittany. AP reporter Bill Shinn was denied military phone access by General MacArthur’s headquarters after breaking the Inchon landing story. Shinn, not accredited in FE command, could still file via other AP staff. the agency did not kill the story.
Mrs Anna Vetters and Mrs Jane Gross lead 26 residents from six counties and Harrisonburg in a conference with a four man USDA Animal Husbandry panel to secure use of Beef Cattle Research Station buildings as a regional home for the aged. They were told to submit full facts and figures for USDA review at an early date.
In a Brooklyn court a wire tapped recording alleges police payoffs and fake arrests tied to a bookmaking ring. Police officials and the grand jury investigated as 19 men were held as witnesses and Harry Gross was seized in a hotel suite.
