In circuit court last night a first degree murder verdict was returned against Kermit Candoree. He received a 60 year prison term with 15 years in prison on a related component. The defendant appeared relieved as the sentence was announced and his defense counsel accepted the term.
Kermit Orndorff, a Frederick County farmer, is sentenced to 38 years in the Virginia State Penitentiary for the murder of his wife Frances Orndorff. The jury reached a compromise on the term after a four ballot process following a first degree murder finding. The court praised jurors for their conduct as prosecutors and defense counsel welcomed the verdict.
Democratic candidate Franklin D. Roosevelt told Cheyenne crowds that Missouri Kansas and Colorado would do better than Maine in the November election. He outlined a western swing plan to Salt Lake City and hinted at a mid western trip including St. Louis.
