Mom Hockman Spurs JW Band Boosters Growth and Fundraising
Ruth Hockman, a nurse and mother of three, leads the James Wood Band Boosters as president. The band has expanded from 38 to over 200 members under Daniel Schoemmel, aided by frequent fundraisers including Hoagie and concession sales and a yearly spaghetti supper. An annual haunted house has become a major event at the Round Hill School, with plans to host it at the Frederick County Fairgrounds, though competing plans by area Jaycees threaten profits. Funds raised support the band, with proceeds allocated to activities and programs.
