Postmaster Joseph C. Haines reminds rural patrons to add the rural route number and box number in addresses. He notes mail addressed to a box alone goes to the Box Section, causing delivery delays once the error is found.

The Senate Judiciary Committee may subpoena Undersecretary of the Treasury Joseph W. Barr and White House aide Derier Pierson if they refuse to testify about Fortas. Doctors report former President Dwight D. Eisenhower is gaining strength and making satisfactory progress in recovery from his seventh heart attack. He remains confined to bed at Walter Reed Army Hospital with no new heart trouble and uncertainty about when he may return to Gettysburg home.

An Arlington man, John Anthony Lotti, 19, died after a one car crash on Rt. 50 west of Winchester at 7:15 p.m. A passenger, Robert Bosseree, was treated for leg injuries and released. The 1968 Volkswagen rolled over on a curve. Lotti was ejected and the car was total loss. Two earlier Winchester crashes caused about 1100 in vehicle damage each.
In New York City a call for state takeover of the Ocean Hill Brownsville experimental district follows two citywide teachers strikes. AFL CIO UFT protests transfer of 10 white teachers and 200 supporters. Mayor Lindsay seeks de escalation as 22,600 students attend and 159 of 900 schools are open.
Maj. Gen. Keith L Ware killed when his helicopter crashed seven miles south of the Cambodian border near Loc Ninh during a two day battle in Vietnam. Eight aboard died including Ware and three staff members. Ware, Medal of Honor recipient, led the 1st Infantry Division in Vietnam since March.
The Pentagon announced early release for 30,000 Navy reservists on two year active duty terms, saving 48 million this fiscal year. Rep. Schweiker called it an outrageous injustice, alleging Pueblo crisis activation was a sham to boost manpower, as some reservists may trim active duty by up to one year.
New York AP report says 1.7 million foreign visitors are expected in the United States this year, a 15 percent rise from 1967 and an 188 percent gain since 1961. The Travel Service notes each visitor spends about 400 dollars and operates with a 3 million dollar budget to promote tourism abroad.
Israeli troops reported a fresh clash with Jordanian forces in the Beisan Valley, south of the Sea of Galilee, as mortar fire sparked a brief exchange with no Israeli casualties. In Amman, King Hussein announced replacement of 1967 war losses with modern weapons, including antiaircraft missiles, from the United States and other Western nations.
In a Friday operation, Allied forces with tanks and naval gunfire reported 158 enemy soldiers killed in the southern DMZ. Maj. Gen. Keith L. Ware was killed in a helicopter crash near the Cambodian border as allies suffered four dead and 46 wounded. The strike aimed to blunt a North Vietnamese drive and ease pressure on northern outposts.
