Hospital Confirms Deaths in Controversial Haldol Program
Two elderly Eastern State Hospital patients died during a high dosage haldol treatment plan two years ago. Hospital director Dr. Kurt Schmidt says deaths were due to poor medical judgment by a former staff physician, while FDA notes fragmentary records leave questions about haldol as a contributing factor. A state inquiry found no haldol link. In a separate crash, Ronald Thaxton, 47, of Chatsworth, California, died when his car hit a train at a private Hanover County crossing.
