Brooklyn Man Accused of Murder Waives Extradition
Brooklyn resident Joseph Carl Cyrilla, 45, wanted on homicide charges in New York City, waived extradition today before Judge John Rice. He was arrested yesterday at his relatives’ home at Double Toll Gate on the Clarke County line. Cyrilla allegedly stabbed 34 year old Charles Beatty on a subway last Friday night. Winchester police were alerted by New York authorities after a letter from an unidentified man in Alexandria claimed to have been with Cyrilla the night of the stabbing. Cyrilla arrived Tuesday and was detained by Captains Warren Rudolph and Francis Funk, Deputy Slater, Trooper Donald Sheetz and H. C. Pangle at the Double Toll Gate residence.

Nine Navy airmen killed in California crash near Seal Beach
A Navy P2V Neptune patrol bomber crashed in a residential area near Seal Beach while returning from Los Alamitos NAS. All nine aboard were killed, identified as Georgia reservists. The plane departed from Los Alamitos and fell in a vacant crate-storage field near the naval depot.
