About 300 farm equipment dealers arrived to view John Deere gear. A banquet was planned at Lee-Jackson Restaurant, joining 150 Deere dealers and salesmen who came earlier in the week. The event center is Francis Lages Farm, a mile east of Winchester on Rt 50.

Council Authorizes Talks on Park Land for Route 81
City Manager Lee Grant was authorized to begin negotiations with the State Highway Department for about 24 acres needed for Interstate 81. Space Capsule Orbit Trip Fails Not Fails It Succeeds
The United States launched a Mercury space capsule from Cape Canaveral, achieved a successful single orbit of the Earth, and recovered the capsule in the Atlantic about three hours later. The mission aimed to test automatic launch and recovery procedures with a robot spaceman aboard. The recovery ship USS Decatur located the capsule east of Bermuda and brought it aboard for study at Cape Canaveral.

Frederick County Fair Opens With 2000 Exhibits On Display
At 10 a.m. the 14th annual Frederick County Agricultural Fair reported over 2,000 entries in shows for fruits vegetables canned and frozen goods and crafts. About 75 FFA boys entered over 400 items while 4-H had 51 boys with 250 entries and FHA girls 77 with 60 articles. Open class women totaled 70 with more than 500 items. Livestock showed a decline with roughly 30 head of cattle and a dozen swine on display.
