Winchester district conference votes on unification and transfers

Two Negroes Pay Death Penalty For Atrocious Crime
Otto Glehr and Fritz Lewis, both negroes, were electrocuted at the state penitentiary in Richmond Virginia for the murder of Thomas Campbell a farmer from Caroline County. Details were not released but it was stated they died at 9 o clock after beating binding and setting fire to Campbells home on July 30 31.

Nail displays World War I doughboys relief in window
North Main street sign painter John W. Nail shows a 35 by 3 inch bas relief carving in his storefront window. The work depicts American doughboys going over the top at Wytschaete Ridge on August 29, 1918, completed in six months with varnish finish and colored background. Noted Stout Leader Shipman Dies in Leesburg at 78
Charles H. Shipman, prominent Leesburg insurance agent and leading Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks member, died suddenly after breakfast. Born in Ontario December 8 1867 he spent most of his life in Virginia and West Virginia. He weighed about 450 pounds and was known for his active political and civic work. His widow survives and a possible Ontario interment is being considered.
