New Dial Center Opens Ending Boyce Manual Switchboards
A $650,000 C P Telephone dial center in Boyce begins operation Sunday ending the last manual exchange in the Chesapeake and Potomac Virginia region. A dedication tomorrow at 11 a.m. at the center office on old Route 12 will feature Giles H. Miller of Culpeper, director of the C P Telephone Co of Virginia and Culpeper National Bank president. The move brings direct distance dialing and touch service to more than 600 local customers. Helen Pifer retires as chief operator.

Elkhounds Dominate Ware County Dog Show
Mo at Hestehov a Norwegian Elkhound owned by Mrs. Garle F. Germelman Jr. of Boyce won Open Obedience with 1921 points and was 2nd in breed. Nikolas Gustavus took Best of Breed. Ben Lomond's Rambling Rowdy won Novice Dog. Other winners include Windy Hill Timmy Best Puppy and Cobble Hill Tubeau Best Novice Weimaraner. There were 310 dogs competing.

Indictments Returned in Clarke County Cases
A Clarke County Circuit Court grand jury indicted two Winchester men Richard Lee Nicholson Jr and Julian Forrest Boyer on abduction and criminal assault charges involving a girl under 16 in Berryville. Nicholson and Boyer pleaded innocent with trials scheduled in November and December. Also indicted Frank Owens on cattle theft with trial set for October while Elkins West Virginia residents Linwood Davis and William Tincher pleaded guilty to breaking and entering a warehouse. Richard Green Lee faces a separate breaking and entering charge with an October hearing. Marshal Jerome Nutall pleaded guilty to escape from a state prison road camp and received a one year sentence.
