The fiftieth Winchester Fair opened with promise as about three thousand people gathered to view more than 100 shows. Racing fans saw fast-track activity and a schedule promising over three thousand dollars in stakes tomorrow and Thursday. The Liberty Fliers will provide daily demonstrations with free admission rides, and the ladies’ department highlighted food, gifts, and exhibits while judges evaluated jellies, preserves, cakes, and breads. Hog displays featured a 1050 pound Duroc owned by Wilbur Cather, with a sow recently sold for 500 dollars to Swan Point Farm in Virginia. The fair runs nightly with the Doris carnival, charging 11 cents for adults and 6 cents for children.

Reid Released on $1500 Bail After Grandison Proffitt Shooting
George W. Reid, young vinegar plant foreman, was released on $1500 bail by Judge Whiting in the Corporation Court after waiving a preliminary hearing. Reid shot Grandison Proffitt last Friday at Reid’s home on Fairmount Avenue and was held for the next term.
