A defective wire in the back porch ceiling caused a morning fire at the Davis residence on First street in Front Royal. The unoccupied home of Tom Creasy sustained heavy damage to the end of the house attic and roof but was kept to a minimum by prompt Front Royal Fire Department action. Eugene and Mrs Davis are the occupants referenced. The extent of the damage was not yet appraised.

Fire Sweeps Jewell Ridge Mining Town
A heavy west wind swept through Jewell Ridge Virginia destroying the town center. More than 300 miners used dynamite and formed a 600 foot bucket brigade to defend homes and pity the blaze for five hours. The store, church and other buildings burned costing an estimated 90 000 to 125 000 dollars. The coal company ferried food to 1 400 miners and families. The fire began in the store compress room and a miner alerted others at 3 am. The church was dynamited to prevent spread to the hospital club house and Y M C A.

Bly Suffers Broken Leg in Sprinkled-Street Crash
