Robertson Wins Democratic Nomination to Succeed Glass
Absalom Willis Robertson, 59, tax expert and conservationist from Lexington, won the Democratic nomination to succeed the late Senator Carter Glass in Virginia. On the third ballot at the Richmond convention, Robertson secured the unexpired term through 1948 amid heavy switching toward him, with Howard W. Smith of Alexandria as his main rival. Robertson will face Republican Robert H. Woods in November and run with Senator Harry F. Byrd.
