A Front Royal couple dies in a murder suicide at 534 Washington St. Floyd Lee Dodson Sr., 51, shot his wife, then killed himself, while two infants in the home were unharmed. Mrs Dodson survived and was hospitalized as officers investigate.
Allied air and ground assaults target Viet Cong and North Vietnamese forces moving toward Saigon from the north and northwest. U S combat casualties last week hit 408 killed and 2513 wounded, the highest in three months. Vietnamese rangers repelled an enemy force near Saigon as encroaching units conducted harassing actions while plans for a broader attack are reconsidered.
Mayor William M. Battaile told the City Council that city engineer L L Branner became the father of twins yesterday afternoon and joked about a prank he would never forget. Councilman James H. Fleming quipped about the wife.
Judge Robert K. Woltz signs order for Frederick County liquor by the drink referendum on November 5 Election Day. Winchester faces a similar local option vote on the same date. Frederick petitions meet 15 percent of 1954 votes with 828 valid signatures versus 821 required, while Winchester gathers 702 of 666 needed.
N J Miss Davis of Clifton Forge Virginia studies voice at Shenandoah Conservatory of Music. She will sing an aria from Samson and Delilah for her talent presentation as the Miss America title is awarded Saturday night.

Washington reports the United States may offer asylum to Czechs choosing to stay here amid Soviet invasion concerns. NSC discussions considered a joint NATO pledge to maintain European troop levels, with no decisions made and a symbolic stance likely.
Nixon asserts Chicago turmoil last week could happen in any city and urges balance between dissent and law enforcement. He supports a national study on appropriate force and local trained police, plans to discuss violence in Chicago during his campaign.
