The Great Winchester Fair plans a four day run starting Tuesday with entries accepted until Monday evening and up to nine Tuesday morning for non premium consideration. William Mallory Retired R R Man Dies in Clarke
William Mallory lifelong Clarke County resident and former Norfolk and Western Railroad official died at his son J D Mallory’s home in Berryville at 11 pm after a brief illness. He was 71. Mallory served 45 years with N&W, retiring in 1930 after roles as superintendent of Berryville maintenance of way and later crossing watchman. He leaves five sons, three daughters, a brother, and many relatives. Funeral at Berryville Presbyterian Church Sunday at 3 pm, interment Green Hill Cemetery.

Man Killed in Gloucester Coast Guard Chase
A speed boat Lassghen carrying about 400 liquor cases was stopped after a chase near Gloucester harbor. One man, Joseph Mello of New Bedford, was killed. four others, including crew members Manuel Lewis, Anthony Silva, Harry Lewin, and Francis Miller, were arrested on rum running charges. Two hundred plus cases were recovered at the Jones River scene.

The funeral of Harry R. Homer, famed Winchester musician, who died this week at Memorial Hospital after a stroke, was held yesterday from Mrs. Martin Wisecarver’s Amherst street home. Services were led by Rev. Dr. F. T. McFaden. Hiram Lodge No. 21 A F and A Masons, of which Homer was a past master, conducted rites and escorted the body to Mount Hebron Cemetery for interment with Masonic honors. Pallbearers included past masters of Hiram Lodge. Relatives from Greencastle and Martinsburg attended.

C H Schutte president of Admiral Byrd Airport announced Winchester will host a night flying exhibition tonight. Duke Douglas of Skyway Flying Service will fly from the local airport making several trips over the city aided by gasoline flares while giving demonstrations and carrying passengers until tomorrow night.

Attempt To Wreck Cavalier Train Near Lynchburg
An apparent attempt to wreck the Cavalier, a Norfolk and Western passenger train, 10 miles west of Lynchburg at 1:30 this morning was foiled by a passing motorist who notified officials. Investigators found two bolts removed from an angle plate, the plate loosened, and metal bars with a heavy wrench beside the track. The Cavalier was diverted into Lynchburg for repairs. no other trains were detoured.
