Turfwoman Convicted On Liquor Charge At Winchester Fair
Mrs Mary Ball of Leesburg Virginia pleaded guilty to possession of six and a half pints of liquor found in a stall used by her ponies at the Winchester Fair. She was fined 118 and 30 days in jail with the jail term suspended on payment of the fine. Kenneth Lambert jockey was charged with perjury but the charge was dismissed on witness credibility. Martin Lambert and Frosty Martin arraigned for illegal liquor possession. Martin fined 118 and 30 days. he later claimed Ball owned the liquor. Chief of Police Hollis had warrants against Ball and Lambert. both posted bail.

Escaped Handcuffed Moonshiner Fled in Frederick County
Floyd Bennett, an alleged moon shiner, escaped from Deputy Sheriff A J Wigginton while handcuffed and under Federal Prohibition agents guard in the mountains near Winchester. Four barrels of mash and the still were found and destroyed. Bennett fled through a rear door into the hills. Leo McDonald was later arrested for liquor offenses in the same area and posted bond.
