Local legislative body confirms reorganization with the same officials as last year. The council elected officers to lead proceeding sessions and oversee city operations in a continuing lineup.
The Common Council reorganized for the 1917 1918 term with A T Jones re elected president and H C Sheetz as vice president. A M Field was re elected city manager and M A Doran retained as chief of police with John M Massie as challenger. The August treasurer and revenue reports show solid balances and routine taxes. The Board of Health reports no contagious disease and water samples prove purity. Milk and Meat Inspector resigns to join the army.
At a council meeting Mr Cooper introduced a resolution to suspend the anti parking law until adequate signs are erected and police are told not to arrest violators. The measure refunds fines and costs to defendants and requires warnings before any arrest for a first violation. Signs labelled No Parking Allowed Here will be placed along prohibited streets.
Bruce Worthington of Baltimore reports four post cards from Corporal Charles Worthington, held as a prisoner of war in Westphalia. The messages dated May 10 to June 20 describe capture at Fresnol on May 8 while serving as a stretcher bearer and temporary blindness from a tear shell.
Mrs H Dowgine Muller urged the City Council to raise Miss Mary K Strickler district nurse salary by 120 per year. The council ordered two readings for the extra appropriation, while noting Strickler already earns 100 annually from the city, with other funds supplementing.
