Winchester firemen joined the Labor Day parade in Washington but failed to win any prizes. The Rouss Fire Company with about 80 uniformed men and 57 in the Winchester Concert Band totaled 187, and the Sarahanne Fire Company sent a representative group, yet both were outnumbered by rivals. Rain hindered travel, leaving many would‑be participants at home. By late morning the weather cleared, but it was too late to join the celebration.
Frederick County board of supervisors met in regular session and adopted an ordinance declaring Singhass road part of the county road system from J B Singhass north to the Northwestern grade. They approved $400 for the revenue commissioner Isaiah C Roe and $50 to A W Foreman for county home expenses.
Fiorello Ramacciotti a longtime figure in Winchester wholesale and retail fruit business died Saturday at Blue Ridge Sanitorium Virginia after a lingering illness from diabetes and tuberculosis He was born August 7 1893 in Lucca Italy and was 36 He opened a fruit and confectionery shop on North Loudoun Street in 1914 later running a wholesale and retail business until last spring He is survived by widow Rosa Lazzeri three children two brothers and four sisters Funeral was at Sacred Heart Church with pallbearers named and interment in the Catholic Cemetery He helped establish a wholesale fruit house aiding lower prices for consumers in Winchester
The H M A S Australia arrives off the Severn river near Annapolis with 53 officers and 654 men. Naval Academy officials host a four day welcome led by Rear Admiral S S Robison in honor of Rear Admiral G F Hyde. The cruiser resumes voyage via the Panama Canal on September 15 for a two day stay.

Officials say weather could push the non stop Paris to Mitchell Field attempt toward New York.

Mrs. Margaret Alice Larrick, wife of John Wesley Larrick Sr, longtime farmer fruit grower and stock breeder, died in Winchester Memorial Hospital after months of illness. She was born January 21 1858 and was active in the Round Hill Presbyterian Church. Survived by husband and ten children and siblings. Funeral at 2 p.m. tomorrow from 115 Peyton Street with Presbyterian ministers officiating. burial in Mount Hebron.

The funeral of Benjamin B. Parker postmaster at Middletown this county who died Friday night was held Sunday at two o’clock from his residence. Rev Arthur Wake of Strasburg officiated at Mount Carmel Cemetery where Hiram Lodge of Masons of Winchester presided. Pallbearers included Holt Hottel J R Watson E P Slifer Ernest A Carpenter Wm M Wagner and Robert S Smith. Flower bearers were B R Sperry Charles Pope H Rhodes Benjamin Rogers Fred Larrick and E C Brumback.
Governor Byrd announces six appointees from the legislature and five by the governor to study Virginia farm conditions. Members include G. F. Holsinger and J. W. Nichols along with state senators Watkins and Thompson and others. The commission aims to improve farming profitability and rural living, with potential national impact.
Mrs. Mary Parker widow of Jackie Parker died at 1 AM at her daughter’s home near Nain aged 58. Death caused by acute indigestion after a late night seizure. She was a daughter of the late James and Eliza Watson and is survived by son Jonah E. Parker of Monroe Michigan and daughter Rebecca Owen of the county. Funeral 4 PM today with interment in the family graveyard near Hayfield.

Charles R. Fogle aged sixty six or sixty seven, formerly of Ingham county Virginia, died last Saturday afternoon at his son Claude Fogle’s home 19 Kern Street after a six month illness. He leaves daughters Mrs. Gordon Hols and Mrs. William Cornwell, son Claude D. Fogle, six grandchildren, two brothers and a sister. He was a Brethren Church member and long time community figure. Funeral at the Brethren Church Berryville Pike conducted by Reverends C N and Milket with interment Hebron Cemetery. Pallbearers named.
