Winchester area schools reopen for 17 000 students
Vacations ended as more than 17 000 students returned to public schools in Winchester and Frederick Clarke and Warren Counties. Officials reported few problems aside from routine first day issues. The Bass Hoover Elementary School and the Evaluation and Special Services Center in Stephens City opened as new facilities.

Plane Crash Kills Three Near Martinsburg West Virginia Border
Ground searchers found the bodies of a man, his four year old son, and the grandfather about seven miles southwest of Martinsburg along the West Virginia Virginia border.
