Jurors Clear Woman of Manslaughter in Auto Death
A Strasburg woman, Mrs. Jean Wills Jamerson, was acquitted of involuntary manslaughter after a Corporation Court jury deliberated about an hour in the June 4 crash that killed Mrs. Georgine Magruder and injured Col. John Magruder. The jury, led by Willis Ligon II, found no negligence to justify manslaughter but registered doubt in the verdict. Judge Elliott D. Marshall ordered the verdict recorded and Mrs. Jamerson released. Defense lawyer Kermit Racey argued there was no evidence of hot rodding or speeding and noted the driver’s grief and fear after the accident.
