ERA Faces Filibuster Over ERA Extension Deadline

The ERA extension bill faces a Senate filibuster unless it allows states to rescind ratifications. Senator Jake Garn calls for adding a rescission provision to ensure fair play. With 35 of 38 states ratified, three more are needed before the 1972 seven year limit expires March 22. Four states have voted to rescind, complicating prospects for ratification by June 30, 1982. The House earlier rejected Railsback's rescission amendment by 227 to 196.
