Violence Flares Over Segregation In Clinton Tenn Town
In Clinton Tennessee a mob driven by segregationists terrorized the town for hours amid calls for a home guard and a segregation rally at the Anderson County Courthouse. Farm Prices Dip as 1954 Peak Gap Widens
U S farm prices suffer the sharpest drop since June 1954 with a 3 percent fall between mid July and mid August led by lower potato and vegetable prices. State police reported the first Labor Day highway fatality as James Delaney 25 of Grundy died after a single vehicle crash on Route 460 near Van Sant. Bob Plymale 20 also of Grundy was injured. A second fatality was Robert Julian Mosley 57 of Norfolk from a crash on Route 270 near Oak Grove. The year toll is 533 with safety officials predicting 12 to 20 more deaths by midnight Monday.
