The 1950 51 session will begin Tuesday with a faculty meeting tomorrow as new teachers join the system. Quarles reports all departments ready and enrollment completed with 計no further first day registration and delayed registration Thursday Sept 7 for any remaining pupils.
The Senate voted 42 to 36 to delay action on an excess profits tax until next January. A George sponsored amendment delays the levy to January with retroactive dates. House action remains pending as leaders warn of a late vote and possible impacts on October 1 tax timing.
Notice announces Fort Loudoun Restaurant will open Sundays starting September 3 serving dinners from 9 AM to 7 PM.

Three local organizations join to recruit volunteers for the Red Cross Bloodmobile visit to Winchester on September 14. Howard Cahill says Civic League Hospital Auxiliary and Exchange Clubs will help register donors. Eighty pints were collected at the August 8 visit and officials hope to exceed the total with rising demand from Korea.
The House approved a bill to allow the drafting of male doctors and dentists through age 50 not in the Reserves. The measure, passing by voice vote after a Senate House conference compromise, also covers veterinarians optometrists pharmacists and osteopaths.
The Virginia State Highway Commission awarded Garrett Moon and Pool a 90 810 dollar bid to rebuild Narrow Passage Creek on US 11 between Edinburg and Woodstock into a four lane divided crossing. The 122 foot bridge will feature two 26 foot roadways with a four foot median and eliminates a bottleneck on the Staunton Winchester corridor. Plans for two more four lane widenings near Pugh's Run and Cedar Run follow as part of the 20 year program.
Washington reports President Truman said the fleet guarding Formosa will depart after the Korean war ends. The Pacific fleet is the largest since World War II with more than 150 ships, including two carriers, cruisers, destroyers, submarines, and assorted craft.

Charles L. Wright's term as Middletown mayor expired yesterday after a tenure noted for advancing a waterworks system.
