An explosion wrecked a wing of the British Embassy in Rome early today injuring an Italian passerby who may die. Embassy personnel escaped unharmed while guards were shaken but unhurt. Italian investigators offer no clear motive or suspects.
President Truman took the cotton price situation under advisement but White House secretary Charles G. Ross said no immediate government action is expected. He added the matter is being studied by Truman and Reorganization Director John R. Steelman with no action anticipated today.
The U.S. Attorney General assumed authority over 48 Estonian refugees who sailed 6,000 miles from Sweden to Miami in small boats. A representative said they will not be deported until another order from the attorney general's office is issued.
Howard Hughes and Preston Sturges dispute the film Vendetta's production. Sturges has stepped out as director with about 60 percent completed while Hughes seeks a replacement.

Thomas Harokd Franklin of Saasette said four armed men forced a car off Route 11 near Middletown and robbed him of cash and a gold wristwatch.
