Virginia IEP Office Closed For Election Day Observance
The Virginia Employment Commission office will close on Election Day Tuesday Nov 4. The Salvation Army announces Christmas basket applications in two blocks Dec 1–5 and Dec 8–12 from 9am–12 and 1–3pm with phone not accepted and no Dec 12 after-hours intake. Last year 148 local families received Christmas dinners and 256 children received gifts. The Winchester Frederick Chamber of Commerce and Retail Merchants Association host a free seminar on Fair Credit Billing Act and Equal Credit Opportunity Act at Farmers and Merchants National Bank Community Room on North Cameron Street from 9am to 12 noon Friday. Speakers include William A Bridenstine and Richard Insley. Reservations not required. Friday events include a 9:30am Bazaar and bake sale at 108 W Clifford St, 12:15pm Winchester-Frederick HSC at Lee Jackson, 3pm Teen Weight Watchers, 8pm Shenandoah College Jazz Ensemble at the Conservatory auditorium, and United Commercial Travelers Elks Home. Saturday features another Bazaar and bake sale at 108 W Clifford St hosted by Congregational United Church of Christ.

Higher Social Security tax base to rise in 1976
The government announced a higher taxable wage base for Social Security starting January 1, increasing the base to 15 300 dollars. About 18 million workers will pay more next year, with a maximum tax of 895.05 dollars for workers and 1,208.70 dollars for the self employed, while employers pay a matching amount.
