The U S military reported a second bombing in eight days at the De Nazification Board Office in Esslingen. Ten people were detained for questioning, including a suspect seen fleeing the scene, and bloodhounds aided the investigation. No injuries were reported. the blast damaged only the building’s exterior.
Washington October 28. High level officials say President Truman will try to keep his cabinet intact next year. The delay of nine postings includes nine vacancies such as Atomic Energy Commission chair and FCC chief with Lilienthal and Porter discussed, while Byrnes shapes ambassador to London and other key posts remain unsettled.

Washington, Oct. 28. The pre election coal crisis moves to a showdown between John L. Lewis and the Truman administration. Lewis threatens a Friday walkout by 400,000 soft coal miners while Krug and White House aides weigh whether to reopen the Krug Lewis pact or let the miners quit work before the elections. The May 29 contract raised wages 18 12 cents hourly and funded a welfare and retirement plan with a five cent royalty on coal.
The House Campaign Expenditures Committee summoned four AFL unions the American Federation of Musicians the Teamsters Union the United International Union of Laundry Workers and the United Garment Workers to disclose details of political activities or face contempt. AFL officials protested the request as beyond authority while AFL President Samuel Gompers? dispute unclear. Contempt penalties possible if unions refuse to answer at the hearing with counsel Padway defending the unions.
Richmond Va October 28 A recommendation by Dr L J Roper state health commissioner that the state abandon the idea of acquiring Woodrow Wilson General Hospital near Staunton for use as a tuberculosis hospital was accepted today by the General Assembly's special commission on the hospital and by Governor Tuck.

Diamonds worth 3200 later found safe at the Royal Palace of St James tied to Lady Legh. A palace spokesman said the jewels never left the apartment. Police linked the robberies to a powerful determined gang modeled as a self contained unit.

Nine persons were hospitalized after five auto accidents in the Winchester area during the weekend. The first crash near Stephens City on Route 11 involved a Nash driven by Ernest F. Heiberger and a Chrysler driven by Christ Contakos. Contakos was injured along with two passengers.
