October rainfall reaches 10.09 inches with North Branch at Riverton Junction cresting over the approach to the bridge near Castleman. Water levels rise along the Shenandoah as observers report flooding conditions.
Rising waters of the South Branch Po tomac blocked Route 50 west of Romney with 10 to 15 foot depths reported at Burlington and New Creek. Buses tried to reach Winchester from Cumberland, last at 3 a.m., as the crest receded then rose again. Shenandoah crests at Berry's Ferry and Riverton Junction remained within banks, with Riverton reaching the 10 foot stage by noon.
Wettest October on record likely to exceed the 1898 high.
