Murder and death by own action verdict returned in deaths
A Newport News verdict of murder and death by own action was returned in the deaths of Randall Eugene Story and Betty Pauline Eason. The pair, not married, were in a third floor apartment when Story allegedly shot Eason with a .22 revolver and then killed himself. Carrie Story of Petersburg said the marriage was not yet final. Eason had worked at a chain grocery since 1951 and hailed from Wilson Mills North Carolina.

An 18 year old Negro youth bonded for 1000 dollars to await a felonious assault hearing after a cutting affray near Liberty Avenue and Kent Street. Ann Brown 28 from Haddox Row was slashed in the upper arm and chest and taken to Winchester Memorial Hospital. Mose W. Brown 18 of 439 N. Cameron Street was arrested nearby after the incident. He reportedly admitted the cut and said the pair had argued. A preliminary hearing is set for Tuesday morning.
