A jury that found former Interior Secretary Albert Fall guilty recommends mercy in a court appearance. Fall, accused of accepting a bribe, sits slumped in his chair as the judge weighs clemency options.
Albert B. Fall found guilty of accepting a bribe from Edward Doheny for the Elk Hills naval oil reserve lease. The jury urged mercy, while Doheny faces further trial. Court adjourns as Fall, in a chair, reacts. Doheny may be tried next year.

Mr Lawrence T Hott and Miss Alta Conk were married Wednesday at the First Baptist Church with Rev E T Clark officiating. The groom, a Kirby West Virginia native, lives in Winchester, son of Mr and Mrs Aaron Hott. The bride, Buckman Virginia native, is daughter of Mr and Mrs William Conk and now resides here.
Governor Harry E. Byrd spoke to a large Democratic gathering in Fairfield Rockbridge County urging voters to scrutinize charges about tax changes. He cites 1927 tax repeal that removed state tax on land and tangible property, claiming broad relief for about 250,000 taxpayers despite critics like Anderson and Dr. Brown.
In Kentucky near Leitchfield a prank with black powder in an open grate ignited a fire. Mrs Mary Meredith and her step son Lee Meredith, 20, died in the blaze. Stanley Embry, 24, and George Rogers were among those injured as the house burned.
Chicago dispatch reports Willie Doody nicknamed the baby faced killer was convicted of murder in the slaying of Berwyn police chief Charles Levy last May. The jury returned a death sentence and Doody showed bravado during trial but collapsed after verdict before being led from the courtroom by two bailiffs.

Mrs KE K Hetzer of Hagerstown Maryland spent time here as the guest of Mrs Emma Afflecker on South Cameron street. Mr Stuart Smith of the General Electric Company Baltimore was here yesterday on business.
Two men Lloyd Henderson and Claude Dix were arrested by Motor Vehicle Inspector H. E. Shull near a barn south of town. They face illegal liquor possession charges and possession of two crates of chickens. Henderson allegedly has a Warren County chicken theft indictment. He recently returned from New York state and had previously fled before the indictment.
A disability clinic for crippled or deformed individuals will be held at the District Nurse Association office near the Court House on Friday November 2. Dr. Allen Voshell of the University of Virginia Hospital will lead, with nurses Josephine Arthur and Evelyn Dean assisting. Hours are 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 to 3:00 or 4:00 p.m. The event is free and sponsored by Winchester Kiwanis and Rotary clubs. attendance is encouraged especially for youth.
