Tanker Ablaze After Collision Off California Coast
Coast Guard reported a mid sea collision 15 miles off Point Sur between the oil tanker Sparrow's Point and the Canadian motorship Manx Fisher. Fire raged aboard Sparrow's Point as its crew evacuated in lifeboats. Colina rescued 14 men from one boat, another lifeboat sighted, while Manx Fisher suffered minor damage and continued to San Francisco. Elden Johnson offered assistance if required.

London Wreck Kills 28 Injures 100 In Fog Collision
Two commuter-packed suburban electric trains collided in dense fog near South Croydon. At least 28 people were killed and more than 100 injured as a follow train rammed into the rear of the first. Four coaches derailed and telescoped. Croydon Mayday and Croydon General hospitals reported major casualties.

Child Loses Two Fingers in Cap Explosion
Janice Jones a seven year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Wade Jones living on Apple Pie Ridge Road near Winchester lost the index and middle fingers of her right hand when a dynamite cap she was playing with exploded. She was at home alone when the accident occurred and was taken to the hospital by neighbors. Caps were later found at the scene and by the box in which they were kept. The sheriff said Janice told officers she found the caps with her younger sisters and grabbed one from the box before the blast. Her condition was described as good and resting well.

Col. Consolvo Hotel Owner Dies at 76 in Norfolk
Col. Charles H. Consolvo aged 76 died at 6 25 am after an operation in a local hospital. He owned the Monticello hotel in Norfolk and the Jefferson hotel in Richmond and formerly ran the Belvedere hotel in Baltimore. Survived by son Charles S. Consolvo, three half brothers, two half sisters. He owned a Millwood home and was a well known local figure.

Steer Killed By Ohio Auto On Route 11 Near Winchester
A 500 pound Angus steer was killed today about 9 a m on Route 11, three miles north of Winchester, after a 1947 Buick coach driven by J C Hull of Bucyrus struck it. Hull and his wife were uninjured. The car damage is estimated at 250. The driver said the steer darted from behind a parked tractor trailer into his path while traveling about 45 mph. The steer’s owner had not been located by noon.
