Al Capone is ordered to serve 11 years in Leavenworth after a court denies his request for a new trial on income tax evasion charges. Prosecutors prevail as the verdict stands.
Federal Judge James Wilkerson imposes 11 year prison term and 50 000 fine on Al Capone with six months credit for contempt. Zuick gets five years. Capone appeals denied bond and superseders. Capone to Leavenworth tonight after courtroom dismissal and farewell to counsel. Florida liens amounting to 51497.08 placed on Capone Palm Island home as part of government action.
Senator William E. Borah told French correspondents that the Versailles Treaty must be revised with Germany. He warned that failure to revise peacefully could bring force, urged cancelling war debts if allies drop Germany reparations, and said time for moratorium extensions has passed. He spoke frankly from the foreign relations chair amid a lively briefing.
In Darlington Indiana Rev J R McKinnell and wife sell equity in a cottage to reach Los Angeles where their daughter Winnie Ruth Judd is jailed for the killings of two women. They owe 600 on the home as a fundraising drive begins. A Phoenix requisition seeks Winnie Ruth Judd’s extradition from Los Angeles to face trial for the LeRoi and Samuelson murders. The governor’s signature is awaited.
Four inmates blasted their way over the wall of the New Jersey state prison in Trenton. They shot guard John White and fatally wounded officer Joseph Campbell. Two pairs seized cars and fled toward Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey. One, Jack Wierman, died by his own hand. James McGrath was killed by pursuing officers. The escape occurred after recreation hour with a ladder and riot weapons taken from the yard.

The home demonstration agent outlines a week of club activities in Frederick county. Monday through Friday include office time, project inspections, organizing Welltown 4-H Club, assisting Gore and other clubs, and plans for Achievement Day programs. A county-wide Achievement Day is set for Saturday at Christ Episcopal Chapel in Winchester with events from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Everyone is invited.
New York stock markets ended the week dull but bullish in tone with modest gains on select mercantile and specialty issues. Turnover ran about 800,000 shares in two hours, roughly half traded in the final half hour. Sterling exchange opened at 3.91 dollars.

Smith, Scott Grant, Phil H. Gold, and Coleman Dunn.
