Captain Conrad Remembered by War Comrade Feltner
Mechanic Emil Feltner of Company I, 116th Infantry, 29th Division, praises Captain Robert Young Conrad who was shot and killed in action a year ago. Feltner recalled Conrad's bravery, care for his men, and selfless acts in the Alsace campaign, including buying food with his own money. Feltner later served with the Peace Commission in France.

Atlantic City October 23 Secretary of Commerce Redfield urged formation in the United States of a credit granting organization to buy securities of struggling foreign nations. The plan would be supervised by the Federal Reserve Board, with capital of 500 million to 1 billion dollars and bonds sold here at low interest. The secretary said several billions would be needed in the coming years to stabilize these nations.

Strikers Caught Firing As Arson Suspects Arrested
In Youngstown on October 23 one man was killed and another seriously hurt when police stopped two alleged arson plots by striking steel workers. Serbian and Italian groups met at Brier Hill to burn homes of nonstrikers, then three Serbians and three Italians were nabbed attempting fires. In Pittsburgh area mills the strike prompted higher staffing in most plants per United States Steel and independents.
