Fined In Court In Liquor Case At Winchester
In Winchester Corporation Court four men from Clarke county and nearby areas were fined $60 and costs for violating Virginia prohibition laws by bringing into the state more liquor than allowed. One indictment was nol pros, involving Frank R. Brewer who is in France with the army. Proceedings noted a bootleg setup at a tollgate and the group’s attempt to move nine quarts of liquor. The court suspended a 30 day jail sentence due to lack of intent to violate the law. one case was not indicted and another was nol pros.
