Liberal Democrat Sam Massell built large margins in Negro districts to defeat Republican Rodney Cook in Atlanta mayoral election returns. The AP report notes Massell's lead as results came in across the city.
Senator George McGovern blasted Vice President Spiro Agnew calling his antiwar stance cynical and unpatriotic and said Nixon approved the tactic. Senate leaders noted the administration dissents and postponed Vietnam hearings ahead of Nixon’s upcoming nationwide address.
Winchester Frederick County Chamber of Commerce officials endorsed city county consolidation and praised the Jaycees for public informational efforts. They called for a travelers oriented Travel Information Center name and favored annual General Assembly sessions to speed state business.
