Pool heats and cools home in Virginia project
A Bedford County man uses his 900 square foot pool as a solar energy collector to heat and cool his 3600 square foot home near Lynchburg. The system relies on solar panels, a water cooled heat pump, and a thermostatic pump. it cuts heating costs to about one third of a conventional air cooled system. The pool remains usable for swimming two extra months, evaporative losses are mitigated with a thermal cover, and the setup shows potential efficiency even with several sunless days.
