Efforts Made to End Gasoline Price Warfare
In Baltimore on October 18 independent dealers moved to end the gasoline price war through cooperation with major oil companies. A committee was empowered to meet with large distributors to craft a plan against the price-cutting by so called wild cat wholesalers and retailers. A local price drop saw some stations offering 12 1/2 cents a gallon including tax, while the standard was 14 cents. The Independent Dealers Association heard a report from president H A Crouthamey on Milwaukee meetings and accepted secretary Joseph A Waeth’s resignation, naming John L Charlton as his successor.

DOYLESTOWN Pa October 18 An apparent double murder suicide left a family dead in a Eureka farmhouse as William Erhardt discovered his son Leonard 23 his daughter in law Ida 17 and their three month old child Leonard Jr all slain by a single barreled shotgun. Police said Leonard shot Ida as she sat with the baby in her lap near the kitchen stove then killed himself.
