Vice President Lyndon Johnson waves from Idlewild Airport with Bashir Ahmad a 44 year old Pakistani camel driver who met Johnson during a May visit to Pakistan and accompanied him as they head to Johnsons Texas ranch for the next leg of the trip.
East German police fired tear gas grenades into a West Berlin crowd after five East Berliners fled a border house into a sand-filled truck at Bernauerstrasse. Two women suffered minor injuries. The incident followed tensions near the Soviet and West Berlin sectors as border guards briefly challenged Allied traffic.
Robert Joseph Wampler, 65, was found shot in the forehead inside his car at the intersection of Virginia Routes 43 and 733. He had left Forestville Saturday for work and was not expected home until Sunday night. Autopsy pending. Winchester police to handle the case. Wampler’s wife Edna reported he left around 6 30 a m Saturday for Shenandoah County Apple Produce Co. in Timberville.
About 100 florists from across Virginia attend the semi annual meeting of the Virginia Unit Florists. Dinner tonight will feature Frank Sheffield of Richmond as toastmaster and Rev. Jacob Mast to give the invocation. The event includes regional colleagues from nearby states.

A force of 22 planes and four surface craft resumed tracking a missing B52G bomber with eight crew after it failed to return during Operation Sky Shield II. The aircraft, from Seymour Johnson AFB, vanished about 850 miles off New York, with Virginia and West Virginia Civil Air Patrol units joining the hunt. Names of crew members, including Lt Kenneth L Payne and Capt Paul Fellows, were released as authorities broadened the search along the Atlantic coast.
The Winchester Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol joins the nationwide Sky Shield search for a B 52 bomber missing since the weekend exercise. A rash of twelve traffic crashes from Saturday to this morning injures ten and causes about $9,500 in damage. Two cars are listed as total losses and one injured person was hospitalized.
