Virgil C Daniels 19 Boydton first year medical student suffered a crushed chest and Hugh L Sulfridge Jr 21 Lane High School principal's son was badly cut. The car skidded struck a low mound and left the road during the Navy Virginia game.
Preston Will Launch Drive In Winchester and Frederick counties to aid the Children’s Home Society of Virginia. A mass meeting at 4 pm Monday in Handley Library lecture hall with Mrs. R T Bryarly as general chairman and Frank Preston of Richmond to speak on needs and work for homeless children. Goal is at least $700 for the coming week. over 100 children await assistance. since January 727 children under care and 107 placements made.
On October 10 aboard a Roosevelt train moving toward Omaha, the president drew a Creston IA crowd and urged reading the budget. He touted the New Deal deficit under eight billion and a national income rise of over 22 billion since 1932, praising Wallace and railroads for increased purchasing power. He asked the crowd if borrowing 800 to gain 2200 annually would be prudent.
Vienna reports Chancellor Kurt Schuschnigg orders the dissolution of all private armed forces including Prince Ernst von Starhemberg’s Heimwehr and his own Ostwerkische Sturmscharen. In Kenosha Wisconsin on October 10 1945 police say Ruth Moran 21 a domestic confessed to shooting auto salesman Herbert Winter 42 who had been missing since Thursday. Moran led authorities to Winters body and later became hysterical delaying questioning while revealing motive. She had purchased a car from Winter last week and a $50 down payment was noted. Winter was found slain on a west edge road and Moran was arrested in Milwaukee after initially denying knowledge of his whereabouts. Her admission states she borrowed a pistol from her employer to shoot Winter in the back.
Detroit judge Moynihan sentenced four second degree murder defendants to prison terms while seven others received life terms for the Poole killing. John S. Vincent, 66, led the sobbing pleas for mercy as the lightest sentence went to him.
William Blackstone Davis of Washington D C died at his home Friday in the 81st year. He is survived by his widow Hattie Glass Davis and by Susie Glass Strider who traveled to Washington. Funeral services set for Monday at 10 in Washington with interment details not yet available. He had served in the War Department as a historian after a period in business.
Melvin Bayliss age 12 son of Mr and Mrs R E Bayliss was injured in a crash and underwent an operation at 10 o clock this morning to relieve a depressed fracture of the skull. His condition this afternoon was reported satisfactory.
Northampton Circuit Court records show Mrs. Curry Thomas as a material witness in the ongoing Cape Charles murder case. The defendants Dr. H R Hege and Ed Banner remain jailed in Eastville on first degree murder charges after a mail bomb killed a farmer. the prosecutor plans to present evidence to the Northampton Grand Jury on November 9.
