Nine Girls Die in Breathitt Mission Dormitory Fire
A fire at a Breathitt county mission dormitory in Little Kentucky killed nine young girls and injured others. Twelve girls and six teachers escaped from the second floor as rescuers aided survivors. Teacher Dessie Scott, 24, of Washington Pennsylvania, was badly burned while aiding children and was not expected to live. Fred Puchee, 71, and his wife, operators of the mission, also suffered serious burns.
