The field left Roosevelt Field by 9 50 am flying 120 to 150 mph toward Cleveland by nightfall amid clear skies. Secretary of War Benedict Crowell acted as starter in place of Maj. Thomas H. Barry. At San Francisco the first hop began at 6 51 am with 14 planes in the air within 15 minutes, fog and trouble delaying the fifteenth craft briefly while the last of 16 arrived later.

One year ago Captain Robert Y Conrad of Company I, 116th Infantry, was wounded during the Meuse Argonne offensive and died hours later. He fell while leading a successful advance and is buried near the site of his death. His grave has been visited by Hon. Richard E Byrd, recently returned from France.
