B52s Launch Heavy Attacks Across Vietnam Regions

U S B52 bombers dropped 900 tons of explosives on North Vietnamese targets in South Vietnam Cam and Laos as Typhoon Elaine disrupts operations. The Americal Division 1st Infantry unit begins deactivation reducing U S strength by about 900. A vehicle bomb attack occurs near Van Hanh University in Saigon.

Senate approves 21 billion arms bill faces House clash

The 21 billion military procurement bill with major weapons programs intact won 82 to 4 in the Senate and heads toward a House battle over a six month U.S. withdrawal from Indochina. Judges Orders Longshore Return To Work Amid Taft-Hartley Hearings

Federal judges halted West Coast and Chicago longshoremen strikes directing a 10 day return to work while hearings are prepared on extending the 80 day Taft-Hartley moratorium. Wholesale prices fall for first time in year in September

The wholesale price index dropped 0.3 percent to 114.5 from a 1967 base in September, seasonally adjusted down 0.4 percent the largest such decline since October 1966. Most of the drop classes to non freeze items like raw farm products and imports with a 10 percent Nixon surcharge, with food prices down 1.4 percent and broad industrial goods down modestly. The year over year index remains 3.2 percent higher.
