Citizens petitioned Winchester City Council to restrain a wild animal menagerie at the Fairgrounds arguing odor and nighttime roaring disturb the neighborhood. Some visitors defended the cages as clean and said noise mainly comes from nearby railroad engines. The solicitor was asked to review applicable law.
Winchester voters approve a new ordinance fining $25 for street solicitation by rooming house runners aimed at tourists. The measure targets hotel lobby intrusions and passing business cards to prospective guests outside hotels. It also revokes licenses after a second offense and bans street solicitation for rooming house trade.
The Philadelphia Athletics faced the St. Louis Cardinals in game five at Shibe Park after morning rain.
