A vintage advertisement promotes Dr Blair's Cream of Cucumber as a refined complexion aid. It claims cooling cleansing effects, aids for red coarse or oily skin, and promises lasting wear without rubbing or dusting. Prices listed 50 cents and 1.00 in white or flesh colors.
An article describes a metal lighthouse optical apparatus on Galita island off Tunis. It notes a gilded bronze parabolic reflector seven feet five inches in diameter with a 26 inch focal length and a 202,600 candle power flash visible up to 20 miles at sea. It ends with a Star Want ad prompt.
Du Pont recalls Cedar Creek action in which Ramseur was mortally wounded as Union forces repelled Early’s Confederate army. Knight, capturing Ramseur’s staff and five prisoners, tended the general with care before his death, and Du Pont recounts the humane treatment contrast with German troops.
James M. Pangle, stationary engineer at 128 S. Market St., testifies on April 21, 1916 that Doan's Kidney Pills repaired his back pain from kidney troubles and left him stronger. He adds a 1919 confirmation that the remedy still helps. Sold for 60 cents at dealers. Foster Milburn Co. manufactures.
An enormous porcupine from Canada near Maine and the far west is on display at No 9 North Main Street in an exhibit by The People’s Drug Store. Captured after a fierce battle with dogs in Eggshell Hollow Blue Ridge Mountains, it is said to be the only porcupine ever taken in the Middle Atlantic States and its arrival in Virginia remains unexplained.
