Ralph S. Fansler, 64, longtime business manager of The Winchester Evening Star for 38 years, died at his home in Winchester after four years of ill health. Born in Bedford Virginia, he joined The Star in 1907 and became business manager in 1919. He served in World War I and married Sarah Kremer in 1920. Survived by wife, two children, five grandchildren, two brothers, three sisters, and staff tributes from colleagues. Funeral Monday at 11 at Braddock Methodist Church, burial at Mt Hebron.

Rep Burr Harrison urges the Agriculture Department to study a plan trading canned poultry for surplus feed grains. McCormack, a 69 year old Bostonian and Rayburn lieutenant, seems set to succeed when Congress opens January 10. Ill with cancer, McCormack’s rise faces possible White House resistance and rival chairmen like Francis Walter and Albert Rains.
The Modern Machine Company and Del aware corporation plan to operate in Virginia with a Winchester site announced by the Chamber of Commerce. Initial staff will be 10 to 15, with future expansion, and officers include William Roeschen as general manager, D A Foster as vice-president, and Dorothy M O'Brien as secretary-treasurer.
