Four Stephens City residents were hurt in two separate accidents on Main Street and Fairmont Avenue. Five Die In Missouri Home Fire In Springfield
A fire at 715 West Sixth Street Springfield Missouri killed five people, including a mother and three of her children. Linda Sue May Freddie Arthur May Billie Jean May and Vickie May died in the blaze. Karen Ryan escaped with burns and Florence Wilson the landlady also escaped unharmed. Police ruled out an explosion and said the fire started in the northwest corner of the frame house.

Feeder Calf Sale Prices Fall at Farmers Livestock Exchange
Prices slid $2.15 per hundredweight in the 24th annual Feeder Calf Sale at the Farmers Livestock Exchange yesterday. Steers averaged $27.25 and heifers $23.18, vs 1961 levels of $30.32 and $24.70. A total of 2,130 cattle sold for $260,725, with 1,379 steers and 1,? heifers bringing $182,795 and $77,929 respectively. The day’s sale headcount dropped 689 from last year, blamed on an upcoming Marshall sale Oct. 18. Grand champ went to Paul Adams of Middleburg for a 518-pound Hereford steer bought at $232.73. reserve champ was a lightweight Angus owned by Gen. Mitchell Arnold of Loudoun County. The top pen was Arnold’s, bought by Clem Teets and Son.
