Aerial Show of Blackbirds Dims Clarke County Nights
Clarke County awakes to vast flocks of blackbirds starlings and grackles migrating south. Dave Haskell of Shenandoah National Park notes the birds will linger a few more weeks as food diminishes and nights grow colder. The roosts foul nearby forests with noise and mess though the birds promise a dramatic sky display once or twice daily. The mass heads toward Virginia North Carolina and southern states as frost nears and daylight shortens.
