Metro Expands Toward Full 100 Mile Network
Metro moves toward a 100 mile rapid rail network serving the District of Columbia and Virginia and Maryland. The system extends to midnight operations and Saturdays with 23.5 miles in service on the red and blue lines and 14 miles under construction. The Carter administration endorsed the plan, with 80 percent federal funding, and authorities aim for completion by 1985 to 1987 with five lines and expansion toward Dulles International Airport.
