Treasury wary as campaign subsidies may run short
The Treasury Department may lack enough cash next year to fund full campaign subsidies for all eligible 1976 presidential candidates. With $62 million in the special fund and a projected $100 million to $110 million total, primaries could exhaust the money, potentially leaving up to $61 million for primary payments if all candidates qualify and raise the required funds. DETROIT reports a 4 percent drop in domestic car sales to a five-year September low, with a 7.4 million SAAR and imports at 18.6 percent of the market amid a late model rollout and improving monthly pace.
