In bright sunshine at Sportsman's Park the Cardinals play in fresh uniforms as crowds fill the stands. Radio reports Mercury rises about 20 degrees above Philadelphia as the game progresses.
St Louis fans welcome World Series hopefuls with new uniforms and a battle plan led by Hallahan. Connie Mack’s Athletics field a mix of starters while manager Street ponders lineup adjustments as the teams prepare for a decisive clash.
Cardinals tally two runs in a tense early game as Adames Dykes and Blades drive hits. Frisch Boley Bottomley and Foxx contribute solid plays in defense while Haas Walberg Douthit and Cochrane exchange outs. The Star to press notes Cardinals ahead 2 to 0 with Athletics awaiting two more at bats.
Norfolk Virginia October reports say Col B M Roszel retiring state commander of Winchester is gaining support for national commander of the American Legion. W Glenn Elliott cites Virginia backing praising his training military record leadership and patriotism as key qualifications for leading the nation’s world war veterans.
Fred Thomas invites Robert Y. Conrad Post of the American Legion to the 9 o clock Monday showing. Dr. Hugh Clark asks members to meet at 8:30 at T. Russell Cather's office to march to the theatre and reserve seats for all who attend.

Clyde Rosenberger, last of four escapees from Woodstock Virginia jail, is back behind bars. He had five year sentence on charges involving burying six saws in his shoe. Mary Drummitt is said to have provided the saws and delivered them to Sibert in jail enabling the escape. she is held for Shenandoah county Juvenile Court action. Dayton Shiflett, wounded during the breakout while eluding Pennsylvania authorities over a stolen Lincoln, is recovering in the Woodstock jail.
George Ham Snyder was arrested on manslaughter and reckless driving charges after the death of Raymond Bowley and injuries to Vincent Hollis. A preliminary hearing is set for 10 A M Tuesday before Police Justice Donald L Weems. Snyder posted a $2500 bond to await the hearing.
An evening musical service conducted by Floyd Haines at 7 30 in the First Baptist Church will feature a choir with singers from Washington Berryville and nearby areas. Rev F D Witherspoon will preach at 11 am in the pastor's absence. The Winchester group school for reserve officers of the U S Army resumes this month with Major F M Miller announcing the schedule. First meeting is at Shenandoah Valley Academy at 8 oclock Friday October. The program covers mobilization and concentration and troop movement by motor and rail transport. Similar schools will be held in Charlottesville Staunton Lynchburg and Roanoke with meetings on the third Friday each month.
All members are asked to meet at the hall at 1 30 Sunday afternoon to attend the funeral of Raymond L Bawley who died at Memorial Hospital last evening The funeral will be from Market Street Northern Methodist Church at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon.

Warreton Virginia October 4 after ten days of labor with few results a band of New York weather controllers hired to produce rain near The Plains claim they remain confident of showers. They use dynamite blasts to trigger rain clouds and have radio gear extending from high points. A carload of dynamite is en route and detonations may occur soon as community interest wanes.
The Civic League funds milk programs at John Kerr and East End Schools resuming this winter. Children who cannot pay still receive milk and meals. extra nickels support a lunch for those in need. Mrs. Phil Gold serves as treasurer for the Milk Fund.

Margie Esther Widgeon of Berlin Maryland, after being sought by searchers since Tuesday, is found at home with injuries. She says she fell accidentally from Charles Aydelotte’s automobile, a coast guardsman and her fiancé, while on a Sunday drive. Worcester County sheriff plans to question her further.
Mrs. Emily W. Jones deeds her home on Amherst Street to Judge Philip Williams. The Williams family will move in soon. The hill lot, formerly known as Sherrard's or Ambler's Hill, has housed notable locals including James P. Riley and Judge William L. Clark. The house fronts 131 feet 9 inches on Amherst and extends 185 feet 3 inches back. Williams serves as judge of Winchester Corporation Court and the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit of Virginia.
Reports from Winchester commissioner of the revenue Charles W. Trenary show 1930 will yield the largest city auto licenses issued since the practice began. By early 1930 city tags sold exceed 2,000, up from about 1,800 in 1929 as police enforce the drive to curb delinquent owners.
