About 700 women gathered at Morgart's Beach near Smithfield for Isle of Wight County's first annual Ladies Park Festival. No men were allowed as attendees mingled, ate, and discussed business and politics under trees with 12 bars and brunswick stew. Local officials and wives of politicians attended, highlighting female political engagement and support from figures such as Rosemary Trible and Mary Sue Terry. The event, sponsored by a Beta Sigma Phi chapter, celebrated women taking active public roles.

In the Mid Atlantic Open Jim Clay earned first, Boyd second and Terry Rohm third, as 21 contestants competed at James Wood High School.
